Back-to-School (First Week Outfits)

I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again just in case you didn't catch it the first time. School started three weeks ago.

This school year, I'm really trying to express my personal style. I'm making it my mission to have at least one unique piece in every outfit I wear. This change in expression of style has been kind of hard on me. I'm not used to standing out, even though I do like it sometimes. (I know I'm not that unique compared to other bloggers, but in Douglasville, Georgia, I pretty much am.)

I think I'm an attractive person; I'm not that bad, and in the past, I used to dress like the typical pretty girl ("normal", trendy, flirty, feminine, and just...pretty). I've almost done a total 180^° this year with my (faux) septum, and all the spikes, chains, and dark colors I'm wearing now, but this is the real me.

I'm starting to feel like my uniqueness is intimidating, especially to guys. The way I'm getting treated this year is much more different than how I was being treated last year (but I was the new girl last year; maybe they were just excited. haha!) My uniqueness has also helped me gain a different type of confidence, and some new friends and admirers too. Either way it goes, I'm not going to stop dressing unique. I think it's a good thing, especially since I'm an aspiring fashion designer.

But anyways, let me get back on topic. Here are the five outfits I wore to school on the first week. Enjoy!

Monday: DIY lace top with black t-shirt underneath, Vera Bradley messenger bag, DIY tribal skirt, spike necklace, knee socks, lace-up boots

Tuesday: floral print, vintage jacket; black t-shirt; skinny jeans; sneakers; black bag

Wednesday: leather jacket, graphic t-shirt, skinny jeans, skinny belt, sneakers, black bag

Thursday: striped crop top, waistband dress (worn as skirt), blazer, sneakers, spike necklace, black bag

Friday: over-sized sweater, bodycon dress, spike necklace, lace-up boots, knee socks, black bag

How To: Wear Maxi Dresses (or Skirts) in Fall and Winter

It's starting to get cold, and if you're like me you probably don't want to put all your summer clothes away just yet. Maxi dresses and skirts have been a really big trend this year, and luckily, they are very easy to wear during the colder months.

The easiest way to wear this trend during the fall/winter is to pair a tee-shirt underneath and/or top it with a cardigan/blazer. Since people usually wear neutrals during the winter, if you have a bright-colored maxi try pairing it with a neutral-colored coat/jacket and accessories to tone it down.

Pairing maxi skirts or dresses with slick-punk rock jackets would work great for fall. (Marie Claire - June 2011, V. 18, Issue 6)

If you have a maxi dress with long or 3/4 sleeves you're in luck because you can wear it through the fall as it is.

You're probably going to be layering a lot on top of your maxi dress/skirt to keep warm. Most of your body will probably be covered, so make your outfit a little more sexy with some killer accessories. Put on your highest heels, and it'll add a whole 'nother type of layer to your winter-ready outfit!

I love leather jackets because they're so versatile. When I buy my own, I'm going to try pairing it with a really feminine dress to tone down the girliness.

On those days when I feel like dressing casual & edgy, I'll wear it with skinny jeans and a tee with some killer ankle booties.

It works nicely with short-shorts too because I'd be covered on top, so I wouldn't look too bare, but it would still show my legs off.

But biker jackets don't always have to be black. Jackets in finely tuned colors & slim aerodynamic fits, worn with graphic tops and athletic-inspired pants would make one breath-taking outfit. (Marie Claire - April 2011, V. 18 Issue 4)

A leather jacket is definitely at the top of my shopping list. I want to get one by the time Winter comes around because I already have an awesome outfit in mind that includes a stunning biker jacket.
