Chucks and a Blazer

blazer, denim vest, red pepper dress (tucked in), skinny jeans, skinny belt, low-top converses, owl necklace, printed handbag

I put tons of outfits together in my head. This was NOT one of them.
My problem with making up outfits in my head is: When I imagine the outfit, it's super cute, but when I actually put the outfit on, it's like "...eww". My whole closet ends up being emptied out onto my bed every morning because I have no idea what to wear.
Amazingly, I was able to pull this outfit from the big mess I call my "wardrobe", and I did it just in time to catch the school bus (it was raining that morning too, but I still managed to look "pulled together"). Not too bad, right?

A Little Update: I bought a Nikon D3100 and a moto zip crop jacket from Nasty Gal (which I recently spiked; there's a video on that coming soon).

I also have some more clothes on the way which need unboxing videos. I need to film and upload some more OOTD videos, and I plan on making a "How to Style a Denim Shirt" video, etc.
So many videos, so little time!

How to Style a Bodycon Dress

One of my viewers requested this video, and I gladly accepted to do it. I kept my hat on for most of the video and pictures because my braids need help.

DIY bleached crop top, bodycon dress, backpack, low-top converse

knit hat, plaid button-down, spike necklace, bodycon dress, Vera Bradley messenger bag, lace-up boots

knit hat, varsity/letterman jacket, bodycon dress, Vera Bradley messenger bag, low-top converses

I also included a picture and video clip of how I'd style a knee-length bodycon skirt because another one of my viewers requested that. So I started the "How to Style a Bodycon dress" video with the outfit I wore to school that day featuring my bodycon skirt.

Update - Videos Galore!

Hey everyone!
I have a few YouTube videos to catch you-all up on, so I decided to just put them all into one big update post.

It has been a month since I got my long, small, individual/single braids done. I've never had my hair like this before, so it has really been an adjustment. I like my braids a lot though; I think it was a good thing that I stepped a little bit out of my comfort zone. I was thinking about eventually doing this style again, but I wanted to do it with burgundy hair next time (I could do all burgundy, black with burgundy highlights, or the top half black and the bottom half burgundy or vice versa). What do you think?

(For information about my braids, watch the video above. If your question is not answered in the video, visit the video's page on youtube, and read the description box. If your question is not answered in the video's description box, submit your question in the comment box located below this blog post.)

School was out from October 8, 2012 - October 12, 2012 (Fall Break!!). I did some shopping, of course. In the video above, I show and talk about the things I bought from Forever 21 last week.

I also ordered a pair of jeggings from American Eagle. I love them! They're very flattering. I've worn them twice so far, and the only problems I have with them are: they ride really low, so you must wear a belt. They are not as light of a blue as pictured, and they are a bit tight when you first get them. They aren't "super stretch", but they do stretch out a little bit in the waist as you wear them. I'm 5'7, and I got an x-long. They are a bit too long, but I just cuff/roll them up an inch or two. Overall, they're the best-fitting jeggings I own.

This is just a video of me and my little sister talking about nothing. By the way, I changed my intro because it got annoying. I might change it again soon, but I don't know yet. I look so tired in this video because...I was!

Just wondering, which video quality do you-all think is better? The quality of my "Update - Random Stuff " video (watch in 720 HD), or the quality of the other videos in this post?

Well, that's all for now! Time for me to stop talking.
Until my next post,

The Life of a Slacker

I waste so much time! I didn't do anything productive on Sunday (except for chores, I guess).
I should have sewed, sketched, and written the rough draft of this blog post.
Instead, I stayed in bed until 11:40am.
I should have read the driver's manual for my permit, so I can have a license by this time next year.
Instead, I watched funny YouTube videos.
I should have finished making that "How to Wear a Bodycon Dress" video that one of my viewers requested.
Instead, I looked at YouTube videos of people wearing expensive (at least for my wallet) virgin Brazilian weave  that I want so bad.
Procrastination will be the death of me. I need to get my life together.
Do you feel my pain?

Update:

Oh my gosh!! I was in class yesterday and one of my friends told me that she was looking at the Teen Vogue website with one of her friends, and they saw my picture. As soon as I got home, I hopped on the computer, and sure enough, there was my picture for the reader look/best style of the day (for September 6, 2012, I believe).
Earlier today, when I walked into one of the school's bathrooms, a girl said to me "Are you Diane? I saw your picture on Teen Vogue's website!" (maybe she was my friend's friend). What she said really made my day though.
I'm so happy and proud of myself. I can't believe my photo submission actually won best-dressed. I could (almost) cry! :')
I just want to tell everybody that I'm on teenvogue.com. I want to shout it from the rooftops (not literally). I want everyone to know, but I don't want to seem arrogant. So, I'll just tell my close friends and family and then shut up about it.

Back-to-School (First Week Outfits)

I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again just in case you didn't catch it the first time. School started three weeks ago.
This school year, I'm really trying to express my personal style. I'm making it my mission to have at least one unique piece in every outfit I wear. This change in expression of style has been kind of hard on me. I'm not used to standing out, even though I do like it sometimes. (I know I'm not that unique compared to other bloggers, but in Douglasville, Georgia, I pretty much am.)
I think I'm an attractive person; I'm not that bad, and in the past, I used to dress like the typical pretty girl ("normal", trendy, flirty, feminine, and just...pretty). I've almost done a total 180° this year with my (faux) septum, and all the spikes, chains, and dark colors I'm wearing now, but this is the real me.
I'm starting to feel like my uniqueness is intimidating, especially to guys. The way I'm getting treated this year is much more different than how I was being treated last year (but I was the new girl last year; maybe they were just excited. haha!) My uniqueness has also helped me gain a different type of confidence, and some new friends and admirers too. Either way it goes, I'm not going to stop dressing unique. I think it's a good thing, especially since I'm an aspiring fashion designer.
But anyways, let me get back on topic. Here are the five outfits I wore to school on the first week. Enjoy!

Monday: DIY lace top with black t-shirt underneath, Vera Bradley messenger bag, DIY tribal skirt, spike necklace, knee socks, lace-up boots
Tuesday: floral print, vintage jacket; black t-shirt; skinny jeans; sneakers; black bag
Wednesday: leather jacket, graphic t-shirt, skinny jeans, skinny belt, sneakers, black bag
Thursday: striped crop top, waistband dress (worn as skirt), blazer, sneakers, spike necklace, black bag
Friday: over-sized sweater, bodycon dress, spike necklace, lace-up boots, knee socks, black bag

Skinny Pants, Chucks, & Another DIY Crop Top

It has been ridiculously hot lately! Even though I stay indoors most of the time anyway, not I have a legit reason to. I took these photos last Friday; the high for that day was 102° (yes, a hundred and freakin' two degrees!!). When I take photos outdoors I'm usually standing in the sun because my skin photographs best in sunlight, but after taking just one photo in the sun, I gave up and started looking for shade at the side of the house.
We have really ugly grass in my neighborhood, and nobody cares to plant some more. I don't even know if you can call it grass because it's mostly weeds and dirt. Yeah, the dead grass is kinda ruining my pictures.

This is the only acceptable “head-on” picture I took that day because I’m not a model, so the fact that I was standing outside in the scorching heat for a good hour was written all over my face in most of the pictures.

Nerdy tortoise-shell glasses
DIY bleached, button-down crop top
Skinny pants
Spike bracelet
Vintage cross-body bag
High-top Converses

The Bug Picture. This photo gives me chills. (the bug is the black thing on my left sleeve)

The bugs were going crazy on Friday, and since it was so hot I’m pretty sure they were looking for shade on the side of the house like I was. I got attacked by bugs between every photo, but this is the only bug that actually got caught in the photo. I don’t even know what type of bug it was; all I know is that it was big, black, buzzing, and so gross! I know it looks like the bug was on my sleeve, but it was actually flying past my face; I also appear to be calmly looking down at the bug, but that’s because the camera snapped the photo right before I started freaking out and running away.

A Day at the Park

My mom drove me and my siblings to the park a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time we'd ever been to a park since we moved last year and the first time we'd really gone out this summer (yeah, we're lame). I usually don't like parks (all there really is, is grass, a track for running, a playground full of loud, dirty kids, pesky little bugs, and a whole lotta sun), but the park we went to was actually pretty nice, if you ignore the fact that the road and track were made out of gravel (eww, can we get some pavement up in here please? *rolls eyes*). Oh my gosh, did I mention that they have about fourteen swings (more or less)?! It reminds me so much of my childhood. I've been to that park two other times since we took the photos you're about to see, but these are the photos we took the first time we went there (Sorry about the bad quality. The photos were taken with a camera phone):

Enjoy!

 My lil' brother & sister

 My lil' brother & I

This photo is special, so it got a special edit.

Does anyone know what these little things that rock back-and-forth are called?

DIY denim vest, black t-shirt, vintage cross-body bag, skinny jeans, low-top sneakers

My hands were in my pockets, but you can't tell, so my arms just look weird. I will not be doing this pose anymore.

My big sister STUDYING at the park! Don't worry, I won't be following her example.

Over exaggerating

My lil' brother's head looks...flat. (pancake head! lol)

The ship was sinking. Titanic!

We thought it was a ghetto, broken trampoline at first, but then we realized that it's a roundabout (I think that's what you'd call it). It's scarier than it appears.
